Voting is a fundamental right in the United States, and it's important children learn about the process long before they are legally allowed to cast an official ballot when they become adults.

At Salt River Schools, our students participate in various election-related learning. Click here to view a video of the kind of fun we have when election season rolls around

Beginning in early October, youth from across Salt River participated in several voting activities, culminating with a mock election through Kids Voting Arizona* to vote for the President of the United States (46 votes for Biden | 13 votes for Trump) and Arizona Senator (35 for Biden | 23 for McSally).

Salt River Schools also encouraged youth to exercise their right to vote by putting a fun (and yummy!) spin on the process. Youth voted for their favorite meal (pizza received more votes than hotdogs) and their favorite dessert (ice cream received more votes than popsicles). The winners were served at our free meal distribution site (open to all youth 18 and under regardless of where they live or go to school).

PIZZA (of 117 votes, 100 were for pizza and 17 were for hotdogs) was served on October 23. ICE CREAM (of 118 votes, ice cream received 79 and popsicles received 39) was served on Tuesday, Nov. 3!
