Ske:g Taṣ/Kamduum! This Student Parent Handbook provides guidance and policies related to all things Salt River Schools, including health and safety, student attendance expectations, school-to-parent communications, and academic curriculum.
The scope of this handbook, as well as the Student Discipline Handbook (which will also be released soon), reflect a unified Division, incorporating the expectations and procedures at all our schools: The Early Childhood Education Center, Salt River Elementary School, and the Accelerated Learning Academy. I invite you to stay updated and learn more about the happenings at each school by visiting and bookmarking their websites.
Every year, Salt River Schools rallies around a theme to help guide the work we do. As we continue to strengthen our commitment to O'odham and Piipaash cultures and languages, our theme this school year reflects on the Man in the Maze*** and its depiction of one's journey through life, including the search for balance and achieving one's goals.
Salt River Schools: An aMAZEing Academic Adventure
This adventure - our journey at Salt River Schools - prioritizes safety and wellness, encourages increased academic achievement for students, family empowerment through learning opportunities and resources, and boosts Division staff outcomes with purposeful professional development and support. In our classrooms - where living languages and thriving cultures intertwine with rigorous curriculum and vibrant ideas - we cultivate a love of literacy, nurture fearless curiosity and compassion, and grow competent Community builders.
The learners we serve are as resilient as the surrounding desert: Adaptable, eager to blossom, and resource-abundant. Let our deep roots and strong stems inspire the next generations-and each other. Educators are part of this adventure, after all. It is my honor to serve as Superintendent/Director of Education for Salt River Schools, and I look forward to this year's aMAZEing Academic Adventure with you, our students, their families, and this beautiful, blessed Community.
Sincerely,
Sheryl Houston
Salt River Schools Superintendent
